The Zabrak made a beckoning motion with his hand as he took up his stance. His weight was on his right leg forward, with his left behind and pointed away, roughly shoulder width apart. His lightsaber was held in his right hand at waist height. He let the blade drop until the tip hovered just a centimeter from the floor, with his left hand open, palm against the back of the lightsaber hilt. His face was calm and his eyes empty.

    Nethhakk…the Sleeping Sword…

The Vong Commander leapt forward, swinging the amphistaff downward, but Kahj’s blade swept up in a blinding arc and parried it away at the last moment. Following the momentum of the blade, he pivoted around and swept the blade back downward at the Vong’s neck. The Yuuzahan Vong whipped the amphistaff around behind himself, forming a flexible arc that solidified just before the lightsaber struck, blocking it. He launched his leg backward in a kick to the Zabrak’s midsection, but Kahj was already pivoting away, returning to his curious stance.

For a moment, the Vong commander studied the enigmatic Jedi, then he quickly launched a series of strikes with his amphistaff, switching fluidly between thrusts or cuts with the staff, and lashes with it in its whip form. Kahj parried the blows with short, precise movements, making only minimal counters. When his opponent retreated under counterattack, Kahj followed, but when his opponent advanced, he moved laterally, controlling the field and momentum of the fight.

His opponent was becoming frustrated and Kahj waited for his opening. The Vong Commander pressed the attack again but the deceptive motions of Kahj’s blade worked past his guard. He was forced to leap away at the last moment, the lightsaber cutting a shallow gouge across the chest of his armor. The Zabrak’s foot connected in mid air with a side kick, knocking the warrior back.

The Vong Commander landed and rolled backward, coming up into a crouch. His amphistaff wrapped itself around his arm, freeing both hands. He threw both a “thud bug” and a “blast bug” at the Jedi, quickly charging behind the missiles with the staff again ready. Kahj neutralized the “thud bug” with his lightsaber while simultaneously deflecting the “blast bag” away with the Force. It exploded harmlessly against a near wall as he avoided the Vong’s rush with a sidestep in the opposite direction.

Kahj unexpectedly took the offensive, his simple blade work reversing into complicated patterns that confounded the Commander. Thrusts turned into cuts, which morphed into parries, which slid into thrusts. The elite Vong warrior was canny, however, and adjusted well. He was obviously an experienced warrior, and a dangerous foe. He gave as good as he got, forcing Kahj again on the defensive. With their weapons locked against each other, the Commander took a deep breath and exhaled a noxious cloud of gas at the Zabrak’s face.

The bio-weapon burned his face and eyes with agonizing effectiveness. He stumbled backwards in surprise, the Vong’s amphistaff suddenly whipping out and wrapping around his ankle. He was violently jerked off his feet and his lightsaber clattered on the floor. Kahj blindly twisted away as the staff came down again, spearing the floor where he had just been. Unable to see, the Zabrak rushed into his opponent, grappling with him. No need to see him if you’re touching him.

Kahj rammed his head upward, catching the Commander on the side of the head with his horns. He followed with an elbow across the jaw, and a chop on his arm, knocking the amphistaff from his hand. The Vong grunted with pain as his jaw broke, but it didn’t slow him in the least. The Commander grabbed the Zabrak’s arms and they struggled for a few moments. There was a sudden pain in Kahj’s left calf and he realized the amphistaff had bitten him of its own accord. Like the “crab” armor, the amphistaffs were living technology and capable of limited action of the own. The Jedi knew he was running out of time, as that blow was most likely envenomed…

Summoning all the strength he could, he allowed the Force to flow through him and outward in a great wave, knocking the Commander and the amphistaff away from him. Feeling around himself with the Force, he leapt backwards to where his lightsaber lay and grabbed it, thankful for the temporary distance between himself and the Yuuzhan Vong. His eyes were blinded, and the Vong were like holes in the Force, undetectable through it. He was truly blind.

Taking up his Nethhakk stance again, he calmed his mind and stretched out his senses. He shut out the energy flow of the machinery around him and the sensations from Besk’s desperate battle on the opposite side of the room. He shut out the gruesome feelings from the three dying soldiers nearby. He quieted himself and his surroundings seeking the Void

And the epiphany came to him. He couldn’t feel the Vong directly through the Force, but he could feel him indirectly through the air and the ground.

Kahj felt the tiny tremors in the floor as the Vong Commander charged him, his victory certain. He felt the minute changes in the air as it gathered in waves before his passage, washing over the Jedi. He heard the faint creak of the "crab" armor and the slight whistle of the amphistaff cleaving through the air. Closer…closer…

The tip of the amphistaff lanced toward him. Time slowed to a crawl. His lightsaber ignited in his right hand, sweeping upward in a short arc. The blade contacted the staff, knocking it away to his right. The Vong Commander’s eyes opened wide as he felt a sudden pressure under his jaw. The barrel of the Zabrak’s blaster pistol pressed there in his left hand. With his attention on the lightsaber, the motion of Kahj's left hand had remained completely unnoticed by him.

"Say hello to your Gods for me..."

    Kahj pulled the trigger.

"A little bit farther... Just a little bit farther..." Kali muttered to herself, waist deep in the control panel for the Hypervelocity Gun. She was stretching out, trying to reach a power coupling. Grunting, she pushed up with her tip toes, getting that extra inch. "Yes!!" She cheered, connecting the two. She hauled herself out and slammed the access hatch shut. Servomotors and diagnostic panels came to life, lighting up around her. The Gun was online. They still couldn't put it on automatic fire, since the capacitor and reciever were blown, but they could manually fire the gun, keeping it on semi-auto. Spinning around, Kali made for the doorway, slipping through it in search of Kahj, her lightsaber in hand. She needed to aim the gun, and he needed to fire it.

Her boots beat loudly on the stairs as she raced down them. Stopping at the landing she surveyed the damaged. Besk and Alex were standing side by side, both taking in heaving breaths, sweating profusely, and looking like they had just survived the fight of their lives. Vong lay dead around them. Kahj was kneeling next to the body of the elite Yuuzhan Vong warrior, opening a canteen of water. He leaned back, pouring the water of his face and eyes, washing away the mild acid of the bioweapon the Vong Comander had struck him with. The pain was excrutiating, but his vision was starting to clear.

"Are you alright??" Kali asked, dropping to her knees beside him, pulling out a rag from her back pocket, trying to wipe some of the venom and water from his face. She slipped an arm around his waist to help support him. She could feel the pain radiate from him, and reached through the Force to tamp it down, lessen it somewhat by taking it onto herself. "Can you see? Can you stand?"

Feeling her presence next to him, he focused his mind on the pain, quelling it. He didn't want her sharing his pain, she had enough to deal with. "Bioweapon. Acid." He managed to say between breaths. He concentrated on his heartbeat and breathing. Kahj had to slow his pulse to retard the spread of the venom the Vong Commander's amphistaff had injected him with. "I've been poisoned. I should move as little as possible. I can metabolize the venom, but I'll need help getting to the weapon controls..." With Kali's help he stood, leaning heavily on her. "Get me to the controls and help Besk..."

"Do we have anything on hand to counteract it?" She asked anxiously, helping him to his feet. For a small woman, she was toned, and strong. From training and spending most of her time buried in an engine. The Force was also her ally. She stood along with him and helped him turn towards the room that housed the weapon controls. "Besk is with Alex. They're holding their own right now."

"There's a general purpose anti-venom in the medkit on my belt, but I don't know how effective it will be on the vong poison." He replied quietly. He kept his face turned away from Kali. He wasn't sure how badly he looked, but he knew he had second degree burns over most of his face and neck. It couldn't be pretty.

"It's worth a try..." She got him into the control room, then leaned him up against a console. She then stood directly in front of him, her feet straddling his, and went for the medkit on his bed, all business now. "Stop trying to look away. I've seen worse." She said concisely, digging for the anti-venom. "More Imperial's have arrived, but so has most of the Vong fleet. We've got to get you in that chair to pull the trigger and I don't have time for you to be coddling me." She said, pulling out the anti-venom. "You want me to do it, or do you want to?" She asked, looking up at him. The burns were bad, but she wasn't disgusted. Try pulling a knife from your husband's back. Or getting stabbed in the stomache and having blood everywhere. She'd seen worse.

"Always scolding me..." Kahj managed a weak smile. "Go ahead and do it. We're running out of time." That statement couldn't be more true and it applied on two different levels. If they didn't move quickly, they coud lose their firing window, or be overwhelmed by the Vong before they could fire cannon at all. Also, he could feel the venom spreading up through his leg like fire...

Kali grinned up at him. She took the needle in her right hand and with her left, ripped his pant leg open at the pocket seam. With quick and efficient motions she uncapped the needle with her teeth and stabbed it into his leg, releasing the anti-venom into his system. When it was all done, she capped the needle again and tucked it back into his waist pouch. "Come on..." She said, grunting, helping him to stand straight again. "You get to sit down for this part..." Kali led him over to the gunner's chair. It sat at a slight angle, tilting him backwards slightly. Two handles were in front of him, with buttons on each. Depressing them both at the same time would fire the gun. A window above his seat showed the view of the sky, even magnifying it to where he could make out the warships in space, if his eyes worked properly.

Kahj settled into the seat and reached over to power up the auxiliary sensor grid. "Let's hope the target locking circuits are still good." He winced as the fire spread from his leg into his hips and lower abdomen. Breathe... he reminded himself. He let the Force flow through him, slowing his pulse down far lower than normal. Breathe. Just need a few more minutes...

Kali strapped him in. "Locking circuits should be fine. You're firing ones are blown, though. You've got to press the triggers for every shot. No automatic pilot. Make every shot count too. She's alive, but shakey. Don't know how long she'll hold together. I'll aim, get her prepped, then let you know when its time to fire." She reached up, smoothing a hand over the back of his head, her fingers trailing over the small horns there, touching the slightly broken one. "You gonna stay with me?" She asked, softly, her tone serious now.

"Sure...wouldn't miss it for anything," he said quietly. He put his hands on the controls experimentally, "Faster's better than slower though..." He winked.

She grinned and pushed up, making her way over to the 'navigation' seat. "You got it." Bringing the comm online, she contacted the Commander and the Colonel. "The Hypervelocity Gun is online..." She got acknowledgements back from both of them. "I'm going to fire at will because I'm not sure how long her capacitors will hold out. Let everyone else know not to get in the way." She said, then switched over to the aiming console. She was sitting in a repulsor chair that could easily move back and forth between panels. Bringing up the guns sight mechanisms, she found the closest Miid Ro'ik ship possible and zeroed in on it. The ship appeared in Kahj's scopes and he was given a green light to fire. "Target acquired.... Fire away. Just keep pulling the trigger." Ever the soldier, Kahj followed orders, pulling the trigger in quick succession. Green beams shot out from the Hypervelocity gun and flew through the atmosphere into the sky. The ground around them shook a bit with the force of the recoil. She was just shaking the dust off... Kali thought, waiting with anticipation as the bolts hit home.

Two of the shots impacted on the rough surface of the ship's hull. It looked like a large, striped rock, floating through space. One went just under the ship, missing it. Two others impacted on the ships dovin bassels and plasma projectors. The plasma ignited, sending the ship up into flames. Kali tweaked Kahj's trajectory a bit to the aft portion of the ship. "Fire..." She said, and he depressed the triggers again, igniting the back half of the Vong ship. Flames erupted from all over the thing and it slowly started a fall into the atmosphere. Kali grinned....

    War!

"Sel'Coran, good to have you. Now target something will ya?!" Gavriel shouted over the comline. The Yuuzhan Vong armada quickly became mixed as numerous Galactic Alliance and Imperial Remnant ships joined the fray. The group of Star Destroyers coming around the back of the Vong armada wasn't lost on Gavriel either. "Looks like we've got the vice prepared, now to jab them in the eye real good." Gavriel thought to himself. The two starfighters on his sides mirrored every move Gav's starfighter made. The Jedi Battle Meld was stil strong and the Rodian Jedi Jorian and the Wookiee Jedi Rokkwaroo had worked with Gavriel through many a tight spot already in this fight.

The trio was flying under a Star Destroyer from the first group which Gav's sensors identified as the Resolute. It was targetting a Yuuzhan Vong battlecruiser that was at a lower right area, clearly the Yuuzhan Vong were trying to steer clear of the top dorsal firepower, preferring to take their chances on the underside of the massive Imperial ship.

On the bridge of the Star Destroyer, Captain Zaeon smiled as he watched the Yuuzhan Vong ship fire it's molten blasters at the underside of the Star Destroyer. Spots on the durasteel hull were glowing red from the superheated material but the Star Destroyer's firepower was knocking chunks of Yorik Coral from the Vong ship. "Fire the Proton Beam." The proton beam was a superconcentrated blue beam of unstable protons. The Old Republic employed it's use during the siege of Coruscant from the Separatist forces, and saw limited use during the early days of the Empire. However the proton beam projector tended to overheat and the operators were required to wear special radiation blocking suits lest the unstabld protons attack them as well. Now, so many years after it's preliminary use, Imperial engineers had finally come up with a way to harness the proton beam's power. Captain Zaeon was glad he could demonstrate it's use this time. The two ships began to pass by each other with the Vong ship just under the Destroyer.

For a brief moment the lights on the Star Destroyer blinked dark then came back on, denoting a surge in power being sent from main systems to a secondary system. A coralskipper crossed through the Jedi trio's flight path which very briefly interrupted the view of a new superconcentrated blue beam, complete with arcing blue endtrails flowing along the length of it, firing from the Star Destroyer's underside. The low hum of the beam was dull and potent, enough for the Jedi to feel more than hear. The effect was instantaneous - the Yuuzhan Vong ship's hull of yorik coral seemed to melt away from the beam's intensity, and the ship's velocity turned the round hole the beam created into a long gouge along it's side. The long tear in the ship's side began leaking atmosphere, bodies, and gore from the ship itself into the space between the two ships. The beam stopped and the lesser shots could be seen still being traded by the ships. However the majority of firepower was being fired by the Star Destroyer. The warship seemed to have the fight knocked out of it and started to fall away from the Star Destroyer. "It looks as if our host must retire for the evening. Continue turbolaser fire."

Gavriel's viewports lightened back up with the intense beam's departure. The automatic tint was a very handy device to have Gavriel considered for a moment. The Jedi ships sped away from the space now littered with Yuuzhan Vong bodies and biotechnology. "Come on Kali my love, don't let me down." Gavriel spoke as he looked out at the rest of the battle field. The spinning disk of the Yuuzhan Vong Worldship could be seen hanging ominously above the planet. It stayed out of the fight for the most part, but it was widely accepted that that wouldn't last. In the space between the Worldship and the fighters a large patch of space was seen, filling this space were the Yuuzhan Vong Yorik-Trema Transport Carriers.

<"How well armed are those ships?"> "They have appendages only on the sides to clear surface areas so they can unload their troops. The have to depend on warships and skippers for protection. Since there are so few coralskippers around them, it looks as if the Yuuzhan Vong are struggling to keep their fight up." Came the voice of Jorian in response to Rokky's question. "Then let's take advantage of this while we have the chance. Split up, and don't be afraid to ask for help if the Vong bring in some backup."

The smaller Yuuzhan Vong carriers were only about 40 meters long each, and looked to be easy pickings. The closest carrier was colored a lightgreen shade but as Gavriel came closer spines started to appear along the craft that whipped back and forth rapidly. Gavriel was puzzled by this but when some substance could be seen trailing out of the whipping spines he quickly pulled his Jedi Interceptor up and away from what he could only guess was some sort of webbing. "What the kark is that? I'm breaking off the attack!" <"As am I!"> "I believe it's the Yuuzhan Vong's response to tractor beams." Gavriel said as he saw the strands shorten in length and then disappear. Molten plasma shots them came at the Jedi fighters. "Evasive manuevers!"

Gavriel turned his craft around and as he came back around to face the carriers he saw that they were on the move toward the planet - towards Kali, and the ground team. "Oh no you don't! Open fire!" All four of the laser cannons on the Jedi Interceptor opened fire, followed by the weapons on the other 2 craft.

    The Void and the Gun

Gavriel turned his craft around and as he came back around to face the carriers he saw that they were on the move toward the planet - towards Kali, and the ground team. "Oh no you don't! Open fire!" All four of the laser cannons on the Jedi Interceptor opened fire, followed by the weapons on the other 2 craft.

    NOW CONTINUED

One of the transports erupted in a hideous ball of flaming flesh and fell harmlessly down towards the planet's atmosphere, where it would be burned up upon entry. Another of the transports brought back up the hornlike protrusions but instead of sending out the webbing, plasma bolts were instead fired back at the Jedi pursuers.

In the cockpit of his Jedi Interceptor, Gavriel began evasive manuevers - flaring his craft from side to side and folding the 4 hexagonal panels on the wingtips in towards the craft, giving the bolts less craft to hit. "Oh I don't even want to know how they're switching weapons like that." Gavriel spoke as he turned his craft into a corkscrew spiraling it away from the carriers. <"Jorian, adjust your heading, you're heading towards that carrier!"> Rokky roared into the comline. A second later a panicked Rodian voice, that of Jorian, came over the com. "Complete failure in the controls! Poodoo! The webbing has me! May the void swallow you all you Force-forsaken-!"

Gavriel watched as the XJ3 X-Wing was pulled in and then held in place until other spines fired on the craft destroying it in a blinding explosion. <"There is no death..."> Rokky said over the comline. "There is only the Force." Gavriel finished for his friend. Though they both knew that Jorian was killed in an angry state which was a dangerous way for a Jedi to cross over. "Is that what you Jedi tell yourselves?" Came a distinct voice over the comline. Gavriel recognized it instantly, of course he used to know the girl speaking. "Lieutenant Faime." "Commander Faime now Master Derragon. You and the Wookiee can cry later. Right now we have other transports to worry about." Her words were sharp and Gavriel could tell by the tone that Viera - Commander Faime - was in no mood for anything other than the mission. He could feel that Rokky felt rubbed a little wrong by her words, but he and Gavriel both knew she was right.

"Right. Rokky, make sure you keep your distance. Their webbing lines are hard to make out in space so we can't know if they are trailing them behind them. Let's try attacking their sides, you go under I go over." Two clicks came over the comline from Rokky's X-Wing to roger Gavriel's plan. The icy-blue colored wing flaps on the Defender opened back up to shed heat from the craft allowing it to move faster and pull off better manuevers. Gavriel was flying on the left side of the group of carriers with Rokky on the other side. Gav steered his craft away from the carriers and then turning the craft onto it's left side he came back around in a tight loop then leveled the craft to approach the closest Yuuzhan Vong craft from it's side. As expected, the craft was firing it's small plasma blasts at him, in response Gavriel let loose blasts from the smaller "outer" blasters and then fired the long-barelled inner cannons. To change things up a bit, Gavriel threw the craft into a rotation while firing, which the Yuuzhan Vong transport hadn't expected, and could do nothing about.

The lack of dovin basals made for poor defense on the transport's part and Gavriel pulled the craft up as it started to swell, then to his surprise it popped with a sickening display of roasted flesh leaking out into space. The display of cooked flesh was followed by Yuuzhan Vong warriors, hundreds of them flailing helplessly as the vacuum of space pulled them out of the dead vessel. In less than a second the warriors became flash-frozen by the cold vacuum of space and floated away stuck forever like statues in their frightened state. Gav wasn't sure if he should feel pity for them, or if their lack of Force presence even qualified to him. It didn't matter, he couldn't bring himself to care about them even if he tried. In fact, part of him was even glad they died in such a way. So much had been lost it only served them right. Besides, had they reached the ground they would only have threatened the lives of those he cared about. If not the ground of Had Abbadon, the ground of countless other planets slaughtering as they saw fit. It was fitting they all float away in the void of space, they were devoid of pity for anyone outside of their own race. And somewhere inside of Gavriel, he could almost feel a void open up. The Yuuzhan Vong deserved their fate, it wasn't a hatred for them that grew inside of him, only a hard truth that justice was being served with each laser shot of his that connected.

As Gavriel and Rokky performed their manuevers, Commander Faime flew cover for the Jedi as a few Coralskippers sought to get involved. Nightshade Squadron, her group of TIE Interceptors, had suffered light casualties but the rest of the squad was still over 12 fighters strong. 12 TIEs out of 15 in her squadron still in this fight. A skip passed in front of her ship and she locked onto it and began pursuit. Opening the rapid-fire option on her four wingtip laser cannons she let loose a volley of 8 shots at the skip, which missed completely as the skip performed a last second dive to avoid the shots. "Funny, scarhead. We'll be funny then." Commander Faime threw the TIE into a fast dive after the skip and decelerated letting the skip pull away a bit. She then accelerated the craft into a barrel-roll and opened fire again. The dovin basals of the skip drank in most of the shots, but missed 3 that connected against the coral, which evaporated away and Cmdr. Faime smiled to herself as the lifeless craft dropped away. "Where is that Hypervelocity Gun? There are capital ships that need to be destroyed." She thought to herself as she targetted one of the carriers and opened fire, causing the transport to erupt in the same violent way the one Gavriel destroyed did. And like Gavriel, Commander Viera Faime was glad to see the Yuuzhan Vong warriors be sucked out into space. "The Yuuzhan Vong will run out of numbers eventually." she thought to herself. It was only a matter of time.

It was then that several shots split the sky of the planet and then split open the hull of a Miid Ro'ik warship. The craft was little more than a husk after the shots were finished. "All craft, the Hypervelocity gun is online, we now have a planet-sized Death Star on our side. Target Yuuzhan Vong dropships before they can land!"

Gavriel gave two clicks on his comline. That's my girl. He thought to himself. "That's what I was looking for! I told you she'd do it! Red group and Black Knights, target the infantry support ships. Nightshade group will support us. Blue and Gold groups and all others keep the pressure on the other Yuuzhan Vong ships!"

Kali sat back in the controller's chair a bit, smiling as she watched the Miid Ro'ik ship drift across space, now just a dead, burning husk. She had effectively created a planet-sized Death Star. And something that normally took a crew of twenty to run, her and Kahj were taking care of on their own. She was at the aiming station, and he at the gunner's chair. It was the best she could do under the circumstances. At that moment, her comm beeped and she picked up the headset, placing it over her head, sliding the chair forward to reaim the Gun.

"Derragon here. The Gun is online and operational, Commander."

"I saw that. Good work. Now target that damned worldship so our boys in space can gain an upper hand." Commander Titus was looking out at the dropships that had landed. More Yuuzhan Vong warriors were on the way. He couldn't hope to have a bombardment done in time to spare them this next swarm coming in, but he could make the Yuuzhan Vong in space very sore. He wasn't sure they would survive, but he didn't let it show in his voice. There maybe little to no hope for them, but they can all still hit the biggest ship they have.

"You got it, Commander. Let the others know that we're in buisness and to keep out of the way." Kali said, all business. She scooted over to the other console and began powering up the weapon, letting the energy build to full capacity. It took a few moments, but she locked onto the Worldship that was looming over Had Abbadon. When the Gun was at full power, she gave Kahj the go-ahead. "Fire..." Depressing the buttons continuously, Kahj let out a barrage of green bolts that sped from the surface to the Worldship.

In space Gavriel watched as another transport popped, spilling more warrior bodies to join others in space. It was looking terrible for the Yuuzhan Vong and the incoming blast was yet another sign of that. This time the shot went right for the monster Worldship looming back from the planet. The green blasts were more a group of bright yellowgreen bursts connected by a string of green between them. The shots rammed right into the side of the worldship, searing off one of the spiral arms completely. "Star's End! Did you see that?!?!" came the voice of one shocked pilot at the aftermath of the HV shot. "Cut the chatter pilot, you have your orders!" Gavriel barked over the comline. Too many transports were getting into the atmosphere for the pilots to worry about the fireworks. There was no telling how long the gun would last anyway.

"There's no telling how long the gun will last Admiral Kael." Commander Titus spoke into the com. He was talking to the Admiral of the Star Destroyer Battle Dragon. "For all we know the next volley won't come out at all." "Understood, we're getting in position for an orbital bombardment now. Let your people know they thunder they'll hear is the Empire seeing this mission through to the end." Admiral Kael remembered well the aftermath of the Empire leaving Telos, he was a Captain then. Admiral Desard comitted suicide that day he had to leave the Jedi high and dry. That was also the day Kael recieved his promotion, he'd spent everyday since that time wishing to make it up to the Jedi.

Commander Titus nodded. "Understood, Admiral." Titus looked back out the transparisteel windows, the Yuuzhan Vong ground forces were getting more numerous. He then hit the comline for the entire garrison. "This is Commander Titus, orbital bombardment will commence shortly. Disregard the rumbling you may see or hear."

It took a few more moments for the Gun to charge completely. Kali aimed it at another part of the Worldship, then let Kahj pull the trigger. She watched as Vong transport ships fell from the sky, landing on the ground and deploying their troops. GA, Imperial, and Jedi starfighters weren't far behind them, picking them off one by one. Kali hoped Gav was among them, helping to defend the planet.

Her attention was drawn away from them, though, when a low rumble started. It began far away, and then steadily got closer. She glanced over at Kahj. He was hearing the same thing. "Imperial bombardment..." She said, softly. They were showing up on her scopes now. She reaimed the Gun, letting Kahj know he could fire again. Slowly but steadily, they were picking away at the Worldship. The shots streamed out of the Gun, like long pieces of green rope, with bright yellow knots at the front end. With no automatic fire, the beams weren't continuous, but broken up at intervals.

The Imperial Star Destroyer Battle Dragon was in position in orbit above the planet. The Yuuzhan Vong forces on the ground were many. Many would be hit in close proximity to the mountain where the Hypervelocity Gun was located. It was a good thing the sensors on the Battle Dragon were state of the art. "Commence bombardment." Admiral Kael ordered.

The Yuuzhan Vong had dispatched mainly swarms of warriors and chazrach slave warriors to make up their ground forces. When suddenly it started to rain. Only the rain was not that of a thunderstorm, but it was instead heavy, superheated green blasts instead of cool refreshing water. The thunder rang out with each drop that hit the ground. Rocks simply melted and ran downhill like water in the superheated maelstrom. Warriors caught in the blasts simply ceased to be. It was horrific to see, and something the Empire had used many times during the civil war, now what was once so feared, was a sight to give hope. The destruction rained down upon the warriors, their ships, and everything to hint there was ever anything there. The blasts came down, and the smoke rose up for miles in the atmosphere.

    Catching up on things

Working on the back engine pannel to try and smooth it out, Gabriel believed that his ship should be alot more presentable, even when not in battle, he thougth his ship should be presentable.
Not having pulled out a weilding kit for a year now since his usual tune-ups with the Kren's Pride, Gabriel believed now was the time to work out any rust in whatever he had in engineering skills. Taking a panel of durasteel Gabriel started shaping it so the ship kept iot's aerodynamic shape, whilst protecting the added Hypersrive Motivators, Once shaped to fit the rear of the ship, Gabriel started welding it to the ship.

Whilst he was working, Gabriel's mind was occupied, the one thing he couldn't handle was waiting for information on something: Since he had spent most of the time around Anoth, he had no idea about what was happening: no word if the Republic (if it was still called that) was finally launching a counter-offensive, no word if the Vogn had kept up their attacks.. not even a word about the Jedi Order, Gabriel wasn;t sure if the Jedi Order still existed, he could sence that one or two jedi were on the planet, but his fears were still far from either confirmed or dismissed, but the last thing he wanted to do right now was worry about the menial things in the war, and to not worry, he got to work re-doing the engine plate that shielded the drive engiens and the Hyperdrive Motivators.

Gabriel was distracted from work when he heard a similar female voice come from behind him,
"Where did you find this rust-bucket?"
Stopping work, Gabriel stood and turned around to see Alia, but for some reason, she was out of her usual clothing and was dreseed, from the neck down, in the jungle variation of Clone Sharpshooter Armour, Looking at Alia, Gabirel couldn't beleive what he was seeing,
"You have got to be kiddding me." Gabriel said, "Where did dad find that?"
"Don't ask." Alia answered, "Dad jsut asked me to see if you were at Mon Calamari, but suggested I get some armour before I headed out."
After a pause, Gabirel went back to working on the engine plate, asking him,
"So... how did you get here?"
"Dad gave me the yaught to use so I could find you." Alia answered, "He's decided to stay on Corellia after he picked us up from Eclipse. We're living at dad's old hone in Coronet... but I guess he oculdn't help but find out if you were ok. He said you never met up with him back on Kashyyyk."
"I went looking for a new fighter." Gabriel said, "I learned quite a few things about myself in general on the trip... I've got some of that Corellian spirit inside me, I'm more of an Archeoligist than I am a Teacher of the Jedi arts... and now I want to defend what the Jedi stand for now more than ever."

Hearign everything that Gabriel said, Alia believed that Gabriel had finally taken that lurning curve people usually take at some point in their life, what Gabriel had jsut told his sister signified that Gabriel now knew that he was: A Jedi, An Archeologist and someone his Father would be proud to call a son... and from the loosk of what Gabriel was doing now, Alia may have to add 'Starfighter Mechanic' to the list.

After finishing with the engien plates, Gabriel stepped back to look at the work, the shape of the metal kept with Gabriel's want of the shuip being 'Areodynamic' but Alia noticed that something was missing, what looked like a slot for an Astromech droid was on the left side fo the ship, just forward of the cockpit. Looking at the socket, it looked like that only the dome of an Astromech could be placed, wanting to contibute to Gabriel's new ship, Alia asked,
    "Gabe... do you remember Digit?"
Looking over at Alia as she spoke, Gabriel could remember his father having an Astromech droid that tuned up the Yaught when it was on Corellia,
"Yeah. Digit is dad's service droid for the Knowledge. Why do you ask?"
"Well, it looks liek an Astromech han be hardwired into this slot here... seeign as Digit can repair almsot anything Dad brings him, perhaps..."
"Perhaps I could ask Dad if I could use Digit for my Starfighter." Gabriel finished, Cassius would have a hard time letting Digit, seeign as Digit was the service droid for his Yaught, but Gabriel could use his expertice with a Starfighter as old as Archangel. "I guess I could ask him."
"Great." Alia said, "But... just one question... what are you calling her?"
Glad to answer that question, Gabirel showed Alia the 'Angel' mural he painted onto either side of his fighter,
"See this?" Gabriel asked, Alia simply nodded, "Dad told me this was the mural engraving for an 'Angel'. Seeing as this new fighter is capable of out-manouvering most craft... I've christened her 'The Archangel'. Seeign as Jedi are usually seen as guardians of the Republic."
"You mean the Alliance?" Alia asked, Gabriel was confused,
    "What do you mean?"
"The Republic has been dizzolved. The structure of the Galactic Alliance, however, resolves around the same stucture as the New Republic did before."

Having some sreious catching up to do since he was in the farthest reigons of the Galaxy, Gabriel listendd to everythgin that had happened during his abcence.

The space above Had Abbadon was thrown into a controlled chaos as the hypervelocity gun blew off one of the worldship's spiral arms. Another shot slammed into the worldship itself and the Vong forces began to try to move out of orbit. But they were trapped between the planet and the Galactic Alliance/Imperial forces and didn't quite know what to do next. The transports were quickly moving into the planet's atmosphere but the warships were caught between protecting the worldship and risk being reducded to atoms or attacking the GA forces that were slowly tighening their grip around them.

From his cockpit on Blackheart One Colonel Dalvon Veers watched as the skips began to divide themselves into several groups to protect the transports, worldship, and warships. He flipped on his inter-squad comm channel.

"Blackhearts, with that hypervelocity cannon in play, the skips don't know what to do with themselves. That will allow us to destroy as many of those transports as possible so that our ground forces don't have to deal with them. Major Kaless, take Blackhearts seven thru twelve with you and begin to take out those transports. The rest of us will cover you."

"Roger that Blackheart One." His XO replied.

Flipping his defender over to the left he flew the remainder of his sqaudron towards the large group of transports and skips. He could see the rest of his squadron beginning their attack runs on the transports. As the skips rose up to meet them, Veers and his pilots barrelled into them with all six laser cannons firing.

Veering this way and that he laid as much firepower into their coral shells as possible. Thier dovin basels were quickly overwhelmed and they began to expire into motlen shells that fell into the gravity well of Had Abbadon.

As his pilots tore up the transports and skips he kept an eye out for the other Imperial pilots that were attacking the transports as well. Seeing a couple in trouble he banked he craft over and quickly ground the two skips into molten slag.

"Make sure that your wingmen watch your backs." Veers said over the comm channel.

Watching as more transports began to catch fire and burn the skips continued their assualts. The skies were beginning to be filled with both dead and alive evac pilots and Veers continued to make sure that as many Vong paid for that as possible.

Increasing their speed the six TIE defenders flew over their comrades shooting down any skip that even looked at the assualting defenders. Veers shot down three more on a banked shot and flipped his craft behind two that were targeting a couple of Interceptors that were making runs on a transport.

Taking a breath he switched over to missiles and fire one at each skip. Their dovin basels opened up to swallow the missiles, and just as they did Veers opened up with his laser cannons. The basels were too busy with the missiles and were vaporized. Both of the skips slammed into each and their remains slammed into the transport that they were protecting.

"Thanks for the assist." A female voice said.

"Commander Faime, I reconize that voice anywhere. Looks like I was just in time." Veers said with a smile.

"Colone Veers? It's an honor. Remind me to buy drinks when we get back to the fleet."

"I'll hold you to that commander. My squadron is looking forward to that. Just make sure that as many of your squadronmates make it back. I don't mind going broke as well." Veers replied.

"Yes, sir. Once we finish up with these transports then drinks are on me." Faime said.

"Excellent. Veers out." Veers cut the channel and moved his fighter away from the exploding transports. The endgame was almost to be played.

Strike Fast, Strike Hard: Part 1

Yet another coralskipper met its end as it took hits from the Starlight Wizard, and with a smile at his latest kill, Kyle flew victoriously past the melted and deformed yorik coral hull of the destroyed skip. Thanks to Kyle's leadership, Striker Squadron held out quite well even as they had to fight to battles in a row. Beside him, Kyle could see an XJ3 from Striker Squadron taking out yet another skip. Pulling the Starlight Wizard up, Kyle went after another skip above him, attempting to get behind an XJ3 from another squadron. "Not on my watch." Kyle thought out loud as he gunned his thrusters, then switched to the lower cannons before firing at the skip. The skip drank in the weaker shots in the same fashion as it would for the Stutter Fire of the XJ3s. The Vong pilot realized that his skip was under attack, and attempted to climb up. Kyle knew his drill, however, and braked as he followed along until both craft were flying upside down. The Starlight Wizard managed to kept onto the skip, firing another set of weaker shots at its rear. Flipping his X-Wing back right-side up again, Kyle slowly went up a little to give him more of a target to see, ready to finish the skip off as he switched to the upper cannons. When the skip was flipping back right-side up, Kyle fired several stronger shots which melted the hull in the underbelly and the sides. He watched as his target now careened uncontrollably into a random direction. "Have a nice day." Kyle taunted with a slight chuckle, then turned his X-Wing elsewhere.

With the Imperial Remnant forces joining in the fight as well, Striker Squadron found itself being less beset by the skips as the TIEs engaged them also. On top of that, it seemed that the Hypervelocity Gun was finally put online as it started taking out Yuuzhan Vong ships from the orbit. Kyle was complacent, but not completely. However, that was a moot point as Kyle suddenly felt some ripples in the Force. Yet another Jedi had became one with the Force. "There is no death, there is only the Force." he muttered, then recomposed himself for the battle. As Kyle continued to search for targets for Striker Squadron to engage, he recalled that Jesiv didn't have a squadron to fight alongside. Kyle would solve that problem immediately. "Jedi Knight Jesiv Kreg, this is Jedi Master Kyle Landoran. I heard that you don't have a squadron. Well, Striker Squadron welcomes you anytime. Come on and form up with me, you're Striker 14." Kyle spoke over the com-link, hoping that Jesiv would recieve it. "Form up, Strikers. Now that the skips are busy with the TIEs, we'll go for the bigger catches. Our target is that Miid Ro'ik warship over there. Oh, and a good news, we have a planet-sized Death Star on them." Kyle spoke, then smiled as he told the morale-lifting good news to his men. In response, the pilots of Striker Squadron cheered. "Alright, cut that out. This isn't the time to celebrate, Strikers. We still got a job to do." Kyle replied, reminding them that they were still fighting a battle, then looked to one side just in time to catch another Miid Ro'ik warship taking a few hits from the Hypervelocity Gun and was obliterated. Looking forward again, Kyle turned toward that Miid Ro'ik warship which was being engaged with a Galactic Alliance Defender-class Star Destroyer.

Striker Squadron headed for their target, with the Starlight Wizard in lead as they closed in. Kyle could see skips, X-Wings, A-Wings and E-Wings buzzing around both opposing ships. Just like at Ebaq 9, Striker Squadron was able to sneak up on this Miid Ro'ik warship. "Alright, Strikers, this is it. Bomber detachment, pour in everything you got while its dovin basals are preoccupied with taking turbolasers from that Star Destroyer. Fighter detachment, cover the bombers, and do a bit of damage to that warship whenever you can." Kyle gave the command, and with the responding chorus of acknowledgement, Striker Squadron began to commence the attack run. The B-Wings and Y-Wings, with the X-Wings and E-Wings flying cover, got into range as they unleashed both laser and proton torpedoes. The resulting damage was quite noticable, as the starboard side of the hull was peppered with dents and holes from taking a simultaneous salvo of torps. In response, the plasma cannons opened up at the bombers of Striker Squadron, destroying one of the Y-Wings, but the rest got away. As Kyle was passing through the Yuuzhan Vong warship, Jake screeched a few times as a few shots came close to hitting the Starlight Wizard. "Yeah, Jake, that was close." Kyle spoke, the juked to the right just in time for another plasma shot to go past where he was a moment ago. "Incoming skips." a pilot warned over the com-link, and Kyle quickly noticed a few skips broke off from engaging their previous targets and decided to turn against Striker Squadron. "Pick your targets and go, fighters." he commanded, as he pulled off to one side while two plasma shots from the Miid Ro'ik warship's defensive plasma cannons barely missed his X-Wing.

Picking his skip, Kyle went for it as his squadron's fighters broke up to engage their own skips as well. Jake tootled in nervousness as Kyle was about to play chicken with this skip as he switched to the lower cannons and fired as soon as that skip fired. Using the Force to enhance his reflex, Kyle managed to barely dodge those plasma shots from the skip as two did managed to graze his shields. He cursed as he felt the Starlight Wizard shuddering a bit, at the same moment as the skip overshot his X-Wing. Not missing a beat, Kyle braked and snap-turned to the right until he fully turned around to face the skip that he was attacking. As it turned out, the skip was above him and dove at the X-Wing with plasma cannons firing. Alerted by Jake's screeching and the radar warning of where the shots were coming from, Kyle pushed his stick down and accelerated. As the plasma shots missed him completely, Kyle braked and made a sudden pull on his stick to snap his X-Wing back up, until he was flying upside down. The skip leveled itself after missing that X-Wing again, then turned around to chase it again, only to have the Starlight Wizard suddenly came at it with lasers pouring into its front while flying upside down. Keeping his X-Wing upside down as he overshot the skip after letting it drink in as many of the weaker shots as he could, Kyle pulled his stick again until he was flying right-side up in the opposite direction. He placed himself behind the skip, then switched to the upper cannons as he had the tail of the skip in his sights. As the skip turned to the left, Kyle opened fire and sent that skip careening into oblivion a melted and deformed wreck.

Kyle targeted another skip for destruction while it was attempting to get through to the bombers of Striker Squadron whilst they were inflicting some damage upon the Miid Ro'ik warship. Keeping his distance, Kyle opened fire with the lower cannons and let the skip's dovin basals drink in the weaker shots before switching to the upper cannons. He climbed up to get another angle on the skip, then pounced on it with the stronger shots coming at its top. A few of those shots missed, but those that hit were enough to melt its yorik coral hull and ultimately put an end to it. The other skips that engaged Striker Squadron could never get to the bombers, as they were outnumbered and were chased off by the X-Wings and E-Wings. However, the bombers of the squadron took a few losses as they continued their attack runs, although now they were joined by the B-Wings and Y-Wings from the Defender-class Star Destroyer. Now that its dovin basals were fully preoccupied with drinking in turbolasers, the Miid Ro'ik warship continued to take damage from the starfighter attacks. Without anymore skips to interfere, Kyle now led the fighters of Striker Squadron to deal further damage, braving incoming plasma shots as he did so. "Break formation. Target the starboard side of the ship." Kyle commanded, then stayed steady while the others broke off. As he flew over the Yuuzhan Vong warship, Kyle veered to the right slightly, then swung back to the left. He then launched a Shadow Bomb, guiding it to its target with the Force, toward one of the holes which was blasted out by the previous attack runs. Once it was close enough, Kyle activated the Shadow Bomb's thruster, plunging it into the hole at full speed before detonating inside the Miid Ro'ik warship. The resulting damage was considerable, as a chunk of its yorik coral hull was blasted away, and now Yuuzhan Vong and other living matter spilled into space. This blow weakened the Miid Ro'ik warship further, allowing turbolasers from the Defender-class Star Destroyer to start dealing significant damage to the portside. Similar damage was beginning to be dealt as the B-Wings and Y-Wings continuously bombarded the starboard side with torps and lasers. Kyle turned around to make another run on his target. Knowing his drill on attacking a Miid Ro'ik warship, Kyle decided to repeat his tactics at Ebaq 9 of attacking the its dovin basals directly, as he veered to the right, until he was flying along the starboard side of the Yuuzhan Vong ship.

Strike Fast, Strike Hard: Part 2

Jake tootled a question as Kyle gunned his thrusters and accelerated toward where the dovin basals would usually be. "What do you think I'm doing, Jake? Of course I'm going after the dovin basals." Kyle replied, then suddenly snapped up to avoid a few plasma shots that happened to be fired at him. A moment later, Kyle broke to the left to dodge yet another series of plasma shots fired from the Yuuzhan Vong ship's plasma cannons, then to the right again to avoid another shot. Though the Force wouldn't help much if directly used against the Yuuzhan Vong, it was still quite handy when indirectly used against them, or for evasive purposes. A few shots did scrape the Starlight Wizard's shields, but Kyle managed to dodge almost all of them as he continued his approach toward the bridge of the Miid Ro'ik warship. The whole time, Jake was screeching with each plasma shot that came quite close to Kyle's XJ X-Wing, and Kyle didn't even flinch. He had came too close to death so many times to even do that. All Kyle had to do now was to pick a spot, and launch a Shadow Bomb or two at it, and it wasn't long before he picked a target location. "Jake, see if you can mark that area." Kyle instructed, and Jake beeped back as the astromech droid went to work. A moment later, Kyle could see a mark on that spot. "Thanks, Jake. Now, just have to keep it steady." he said with a nod to himself.

Seconds later, Kyle launched two Shadow Bombs, each from a separate tube so they could be released almost simultaneously. He pushed both Shadow Bombs toward that hole, pushing one further than the other. This way, the first one to hit may make a hole deep enough for the second one to be slit into to do even graver damage. As soon as the first one was close enough, Kyle activated it and send it plunging against the hull, creating a hole large and deep enough for the second one to go into. Kyle then steered the second one into that hole whilst he pushed it closer, then activated the thruster on that one as well. He watched as the second torp managed to go in and detonate inside the hull to create an even bigger hole. Whether or not Kyle killed a dovin basal or not would had to depend on whether the Miid Ro'ik warship's combat effectiveness had been reduced, and by how much. As it turned out, the Yuuzhan Vong warship was losing some power against the Star Destroyer it faced, although not as significantly as the one he attacked at Ebaq 9. This may had meant that Kyle didn't kill a dovin basal, though merely wounding it with a near miss. Regardless, Yuuzhan Vong were beginning to be sucked out into space as it began to bleed.

The combined firepower from the Star Destroyer, its starfighters, and Striker Squadron was beginning to take a toll on the Miid Ro'ik warship. Soon it was beginning to take more serious damage as turbolasers and proton torpedoes plunged into its hull. Kyle made another pass with his X-Wing, hoping to strike another blow. He didn't had to wait long, as he found a hole that was blown in by Striker Squadron's B-Wings as they let loose a barrage of proton torpedoes. Kyle launched a Shadow Bomb, pushing it toward the hole before firing the thrusters. He watched as the torp plunged deep into the hole before detonating, causing crippling damage to the Miid Ro'ik warship. With that, most of the plasma cannons went dead, as the rest of the ship's living body focused more on healing itself rather than attacking. It didn't get a chance, as turbolasers from the Star Destroyer effectively finished it off, and with that, Striker Squadron broke away to engage other targets. "Good job, Strikers. Form up." Kyle spoke up, and Striker Squadron quickly formed up again, with the Starlight Wizard in lead as usual.

On his radar, Kyle could read a few Yuuzhan Vong troop transports attempting to land on Had Abaddon itself, while the rest were being chewed up by Jedi Master Gavriel Derragon's Black Knight Squadron along with a squadron of TIE Interceptors identified as the Nightshade Squadron. Kyle knew well that the Yuuzhan Vong were landing ground troops to either take over the planet or neutralize the Hypervelocity Gun, and the neccessity for the orbital bombardment spoke to the fact that a large contingent of Yuuzhan Vong ground forces had landed successfully. As such, Kyle saw the urgency of eliminating these transports as well. But had he known that his own young Padawan, Alex, was also down there, Kyle would had gone after these transports like an angry Wookiee rather than taking on that Miid Ro'ik warship. "Strikers, let's take down these troop transports before they can land more Vong onto the surface. Strikers 4, 6, 3, and 8, take care of any skips that happen to be around." Kyle spoke up over his com-link, then headed right for the transports from their rear. At this particular moment, the assault on the Yuuzhan Vong transports intensified as the 54th Imperial TIE Squadron also entered the fray. Kyle recognized them, not for a good reason, as the Blackhearts. "I can't begin to say how my life is riddled with irony." Kyle thought to himself, as he prepared to attack the remaining transports.

With the Starlight Wizard in lead, Striker Squadron tore right into the transports and whatever skips that escorted them. Kyle opened fire with the lower cannons at one skip, preoccupying its dovin basal before the Starlight Wizard's upper cannons delivered the coup de grace. That wrecked skip was sent crashing into one of the transports, doing serious damage which was enough to eventually cause the transport to break into two. Seeing another skip turning to engage one of Striker Squadron's bombers, Kyle pulled up until he was flying upside down in the opposite direction to get at the tail of that skip. Flipping his X-Wing back right-side up, Kyle quickly let the skip have it with the weaker shots from the lower cannons first to let the dovin basal drink it up. When the dovin basal was preoccupied, Kyle switched to the upper cannons and quickly proceeded to blast that skip into oblivion. As he turned back to engage the transports, the rest of Striker Squadron were on the case as B-Wings and Y-Wings had already obliterated two of them with a salvo of torpedoes. Not to be outdone, Kyle attacked the closest transport he could find as it was also under attack from two E-Wings in his squad. He dove at it from its starboard side with lasers firing, then let loose of a Shadow Bomb which dealt the fatal blow as the transport was blasted into halves. Hundreds of Yuuzhan Vong warriors were blown into space, all of which were flash frozen before they knew what happened. To his surprise, the transports lacked dovin basals, a fact which brought a smile to Kyle as he could now press his attacks harder than he could before. He then targeted his next transport which was being harrassed by two XJ3s on his squadron, and joined in the attack with two Shadow Bombs to its rear, activating their thrusters one at a time. He then watched as the transport popped into chunks of burnt flesh as Yuuzhan Vong warriors were spilled into space, at the same time as two more were being destroyed by Striker Squadron's fierce attacks. With Kyle's leadership, Striker Squadron lived up to its name like never before as it continued its aggressive attack upon the transports and the skips around them. Now, it would only be a matter of time before the transports were finished...

Sel put the Rune Hammer into a lazy turn as he looked out the viewport. His multi faceted eyes watched in awe as the Star Destroyers rained turbolaser fire down upon the planet below. Sel couldn’t see the destruction but he could imagine it.
“This is Ice Breaker five I’ve got a pair on mine tail” came a strangled voice over the comm. “They’re all over me”
“Hold five this one is coming to your aid” Sel clicked then veered off and around his keen eyes trying to find the Miy’til fighter before it was too late. A ball of plasma flashed passed him and slammed into the hull of one of the Star Destroyers. Sel skimmed over the hull of the Star Destroyer and bounced over irregular lumps where muddles protruded. He checked his scanner and pin pointed Ice Breaker five.
“This one has you on its scope’s now and is coming now five” Sel hissed and pulled away from the shelter of the Star Destroyer and out into open space. Five’s Miy’til fighter was pretty beat up with scorch marks on the nose cone. Two coral skippers danced around the damaged fighter but could not make a shot on the fighter. Sel ground his mandibles together and dived down then came up underneath the Coral Skipper firing into the unprotected belly. Yorik coral broke free in huge chunks and the coral skipper broke off spinning into the planet’s orbit. Sel turned his attention to the other skipper and squeezed the trigger but this time the skipper was prepared and the blackholes the Dovin Bassals produced swallowed the crimson laser blasts and returned fire in the form of super heated plasma. Sel moved just in time the shields wavered slightly and a beeping noise echoed through the cockpit as several displays turn yellow indicating that the Rune Hammer had taken damage. Sel turned tail as if to run and launched a torpedo from the launcher using the force. The torpedo struck and blew the front of skipper off and it exploded in a spectacular fireworks display.

On board the Nova Battle Cruiser Algernock stood hand clasped behind his back and nodded at a tech
“Open fire on the transports” the tech nodded and powered up weapons. The Nova Battle cruiser opened fire on the transports. The gunners barely missing the friendly fighters which weaved amongst the transports. A wave of missiles from the Hetrinar bombers struck out at Yuuzhan Vong capital ships supporting the GA’s fighters and bombers .

    Savin' Me...

Kali's hands flew over the controls as she repositioned the Gun one more time to take another shot at the worldship that was hanging above Had Abbadon. Just a few more blasts and the thing was toast. And judging from the rumbles she heard, the Imperial Bombardment was going pretty well. Almost too well, maybe.. She thought as the controls shook under her fingertips.

Not two seconds later an alarm went off at her elbow. She slapped it silent, then looked to see what it told her. "Sith spit..." She cursed softly under her breath, then yanked the comm unit of off her head. "Alex!! Besk!!" She yelled at the top of her lungs. The two young Jedi came barreling into the room. "Take the controls, Alex." She said. The young girl looked like she was about to protest for a moment, but Kali stopped her. "It's just like aiming a blaster. A really large one. Just keep this," Kali pointed to the viewscreen on the console, where the Vong worldship was shown, hovering. "Inbetween the crosshairs and you can't go wrong. It's too big to miss." She looked up at the Bothan, then. "Besk, help her out. Make sure Kahj is alright, too."

"Well, where are you going??" Alex asked. "To make sure this pile of bantha fodder doesn't fall down around our ears!" She yelled back over her shoulder, racing for the other side of the room where the catwalk acesss was.

Besk leaned over Kahj, who was slumped in thte firing chair, "Moons of Munnopor, master, you look like death warmed over!" The Zabrak Jedi opened his eyes, "Nice to see you, too, furball. Where's she going?" The Bothan only shrugged in answer, "We're in some kind of trouble, as usual."

Kali practically flew up the catwalk stairs, her boots pounding loud on the metal steps. The sound was partially drowned out by the bombardment going on outside. The Imperials were going to fry all the Vong, alright. And the whole garrison along with it. She reached the top room and squeezed through the opening that Kahj had made earlier. Smoke was pouring from one of the hatches on the far side of the room. A rumble ran through the room and the ground shook so violently that Kali had to grab onto the door jamb just to stay upright. Something wasn't right here...

Alex looked hesitantly over at Besk and Kahj. She cleared her throat as the ground shook. "Um... the ship is in the crosshairs..."

Kahj pulled the triggers again, watching the display. The spiral armed worldship pirouetted in its failing orbit, falling into the upper atmosphere. The coral exterior begain to heat with the friction of reentry. Kahj put two more shots into it, striking the base of an arm and it broke away. Flames erupted around the Worldship and Kahj grinned. "Goodbye..." The Worldship became like a comet, a fiece ball of fire trailing burning embers behind it.

Coughing and sputtering, Kali pulled the access panel off of the electrical access hatch after wrapping a rag around her hand. Flames and smoke erupted from within. She tossed the cover down and stepped back. Not. Good... She put a hand over her mouth to keep the smoke out. The ground shook again beneath her feet. She didn't have anything to smother the flames so she could work... On the other side of the room, there was a large, crashing sound.

Kali whirled around. The fire was larger than she thought, spreading quickly through the dry wires and old couplings. She could hear hissing and popping throughout the walls. She took a few steps and spun around at the crashing sound and saw a large portion of the stabalizers on the ground in front of the doorway. Now might be a good time to leave...

Kahj suddenly looked around him and stood, "Besk take the chair. Alex, switch targets to the other Vong capital ships. Keep firing as long as you can." Besk switched places with him with a questioning look, "What's wrong?" Kahj glanced upward at the catwalks, "I got a bad feeling about this..."

Access panels and hull plates by the motivator started blowing off. Kali ducked the first one, but the second large, flying piece of metal hit her square in the side, knocking her to the ground. The engine hadn't stopped running, and its outputs were only fueling the fire. She rolled with it though, only grunting on the impact. Another crash. Kali screamed, curling into a ball and covering her head as more stabalizers fell from the ceiling. The capacitor room was falling to pieces, burning like hell, and Kali was right in the middle of it.

Through the Force, Kahj felt Kali's scream of surprise and desperation. "Nath's Tears..." he cursed as he charged up the catwalk. He slipped through the doors and was immediately confronted with the rapidly destabilizing room. Reflexively, he reached out and shielded himself from the falling debris. Kahj was not considered a "powerful" Jedi, but he was skilled and efficient. He dashed across the room, reaching a pile of debris. He could feel the Jedi master underneath. "Kali!!"

The said, red-haired Jedi Master was out cold underneath the pile. She had put up quite a fight to get out of the room, but in the end, too much smoke inhalation can take down even strongest warrior. She was covered with steel, rebar, dirty bits of wires, and a large piece of stabalizer. She was breathing though... barely.

The Zabrak Jedi drew the Force into himself, lifting the large piece of machinery. He hurled aside assorted debris until he could reach her. He scooped her up into his arms and ran from the room, staving off falling debris the whole way. The room continued collapsing behind him. Even as he reached cleaner air, slipping out of the room, Kali continued to remain unconscious. There was a large gash above her left eye, and her left arm hung at a weird angle at her side. Her chest rose and fell slowly, unevenly as she laid limply against him.

With no time to think, Kahj leapt from the catwalks with Kali in his arms, landing with a thud of combat boots on tile. His heart was hammering in his chest from the exertion. The anti-venom had done its job, but it was taking everything he had to keep going. The place was coming down and they were out of time. "Besk! Alex! Get outta there and follow me!" The Bothan padawan came scrambling out of the control room with Alex in tow, "Gun's malfunctioned anyway, master! We were debating leaving you to your doom..."

Alex's jaw dropped open, "We were not!"

Kahj nodded his head toward the entry tunnel, "Argue later. Run now!"

More rumbling could be heard outside. It was the second wave of the bombardment. Standard Imperial procedure in cleaning up. Leave no stone unblasted. Kali was limp in Kahj's arms, and the circular rooms that housed the Hypervelocity Gun were literally falling down around their ears. This portion of the Garrison was quickly becoming unsafe.

Bones, the only GA soldier to survive the battle with the Vong, slid down from the rapidly destabilizing catwalk, "Commander, orders?"

Kahj stepped aside as a large chunk of the cieling came crashing down, "I think it's time for a Tactical Withdrawal."

    "What's that?" Besk asked.

"We run like Hell," Bones answered, turned with the rest of them, and sprinted for the door.

    Savin' Me... Part 2

Kahj followed the others, dodging around the corpses of the fallen Vong that littered the corridor. The whole building was shuddering and vibrating as the bombardment continued. "Idiot Imperials...going to get us all killed... "he grumbled. As they reached the blast doors he shouted, "Bones! Besk! Close the blast doors! We need to contain the fire!"

While they complied, Alex and Kahj continued down the main corridor, towards the underground hanger bay, where the ships had been stowed when the fighting started. The battle had been intense outside, as the Imperials and Galactic Alliance held off the main thrust of the Vong assault. Only precious few soldiers remained, now huddled under what cover they could find and death rained down from space.

"Commander Titus!" Kahj called, fumbling for the comlink on Kali's belt as he carried her. Besk and Bones caught up now, and they had just come within sight of the Shadow. The Commander's voice answered. He sounded like he was in the same situation they were. Evac mode. Kahj yelled into the comlink. "Now is a good time to get off this rock! Get your people on the shuttles and get out of here!"

"Roger that. This Garrison wasn't meant to stand under barrage for this long, anyways." The Commander returned. The comlink went dead then. Kahj tossed it over the side as he walked up the ramp and into the Shadow. Kahj carefully laid the unconscious Jedi on an acceleration couch, quickly examining her injuries. "Besk, take Alex and get this bird in the air. I've come to the conclusion this place is decidedly unsafe."

"Just now figuring that out?" Besk said, turning for the cockpit, "No wonder you're not a master, yet...." Alex's eyes went wide as the Bothan back sassed his Master. She was sure, when this was over, he was going to be on kitchen duty for a year, straight.

Kahj motioned for Bones to fetch him a medkit and he went to work. He ran his hands along her arm with his eyes closed, feeling with both touch and the Force for the breaks in it. While some might think it paradoxical for a soldier to be an accomplished healer, Kahj had always felt he had to know how to put folk back together again...not just take them apart.

He took an electroplast splint from the medkit and placed it on her arm carefully. Using the Force and his touch, he adjusted the bones of her arm until they were properly set, then activated the electroplast. An electrical current passed through the special plastic, instantly hardening into a secure cast.

Kahj then set about looking at the contusion on her forehead, frowning in concern. He quickly sterilized it and placed a bandage over it. The Zabrak placed both hands around her face, framing it, and leaned over close. Gently, he expanded his senses through the centimeters between them and into her, soothing her pain. No concussion... he thought. ...Lucky girl.

Kahj was weary, and his strength nearly spent. But she had saved his life and he was determined to ensure her safety as well. He touched his forehead to hers and deepened their contact, Kali. Kali. Awaken. Come back to me....

Meanwhile, on the bridge of the Shadow, Besk sat in the pilot's seat and looked over the controls. Noticing his hestation, Alex asked, "Do you know how to fly this thing?"

Besk glanced at her with his winning smile, "Oh sure. How hard can it be?" He turned to the controls. "Just like a speeder. Where's the "on" button?"

    Fear Leads to Anger

Gavriel brought his ship up from the latest and last flaming transport as it fell into the atmosphere of Had Abbadon and started melting and coming apart upon re-entry. He could feel something had gone wrong with Kali. The light within her, which once burned so brightly was now suddenly dim. Gavriel fought to retain his focus as the feelings overtook him. She was his everything and now he could feel nothing from her. He was certain she hadn't died, he would have felt her passing even miles above the planet as he was. Yet something was definitely wrong.

The last shot from the Hypervelocity Gun had destroyed the Worldship, which was breaking apart in front of Gavriel's viewports. Inside he felt the same, he could very well have lost Kali . . . he couldn't check on her. Too much debris around him to get anything planetside on the comline, yet through the Force he could feel conflicting sensations. Kali's pain was apparent for all to brief a moment for him to really know if she was going to die, or if she was only stunned at worst. His wife was hurt and her condition he simply did not know...

"Eventually even stars burn out Gavriel Derragon..." He felt the black hole that had opened inside of him whisper. even stars burn out The voice was too close, too personal, it spoke too much to his fears and he felt them grow. Kali had to be alright, she had to be. Then, moments later from the Star Destroyer Battle Dragon came the call which led the entire group, every soul present, to a feeling of joy, happiness, and renewed vigor. "Attention all Galactic Alliance and Imperial Forces, The battle is over, and now apparently so is the war. The campaign against the Yuuzhan Vong at Mon Calamari and Coruscant has ended with the Yuuzhan Vong's unconditional surrender! The war is over!" The joy was present even in the Admiral's voice. Yet somewhere, a black hole swallowed all the joy that should have been felt. Inside, he felt empty. Inside, Gavriel Derragon felt as if he was being consumed by this black hole.

Through all the emotions Gavriel felt, he suddenly felt a rush of worry not unlike his own through the Force. A sense of worry directed at Kali, and NOT directed at her by him. It was instead being sent by the Zabrak Jedi Kahj. Gavriel suddenly felt as if a missing piece fell into place on a puzzle, only to find that the puzzle had come alive and threatened to destroy him outright. Gavriel told himself it was merely a fondness he held for her - surely it was just that and nothing more. Yet Gavriel couldn't shake the feeling it was indeed something more despite he had nothing to go on than a blind hunch. That alone was enough for Gavriel to believe that it was dangerous to have Kahj around his wife... ...come back to me... Gavriel could just make the words out through the Force, as if coming through so much static. Kahj was speaking these words, right now, to Gavriel's wife. ...dangerous... the black hole whispered again, this time it was as if the void had moved from the pit of his stomach to the left of him, catching his heart and threatening to embrace it in it's out of control gravitational pull. It was dangerous to have him around her. And he was with her now, while Gavriel was stuck in space. Why wasn't he there for her?! This was HIS wife, this was Kali Tal'Set Derragon! They had been through so much together. The volcanic swamps of Cronus IV they faced together, the Dark Jedi back on Bakura so many years ago . . . they were always there for each other and this time Gavriel wasn't. Images of Kali in the bacta tank flashed back to his memory, he had failed her then too. And now Kahj was caring for Kali . . . what if she felt anything for him as well?! Gavriel's failure had caused it if anything did. Gavriel couldn't blame anyone but himself, it was he who had failed his wife so many times - him alone and no one else. If she did seek comfort in Kahj's arms, it was only because Gavriel hadn't given it to her when he could have, when he should have.

"Attention all Jedi, This is Luke Skywalker. We have an emergency situation at the following coordinates..." Gavriel listened in and he realzed where the coordinates led to. "We have a situation above the planet Ziost that potentially threatens the peace we've established today. All able-bodied Jedi are to make the jump to hyperspace at once."

The black hole now swallowed his heart whole. Now?! Of all the times for this to happen it had to be now?! Gavriel punched the com inside his cockpit with his robotic fist. "This is Hutt Drool!" Gavriel keyed in the coordinates on his starfighter. The fear and guilt inside Gavriel's heart then gave way to a new emotion - anger. "When I come back Kahj, I will kriffing deal with you personally. You can bet on that." Gavriel thought in anger. The fear and guilt he felt for Kali had turned to a burning furnace of rage within his heart. The black hole within him was consuming his heart even now, yet instead of destroying it, he felt only a coldness, a sort of frost overtake the highest reaches of his heart. The flames only fed this chill and it didn't feel like he was dying, it felt as if he could be renewed by it instead, it could refresh him. "Take hold of this, and harness it. If you let it control you, you will in turn control it." Gavriel fell into himself testing this voice's words.

It was as if he was on a mountain peak, watching the frost take hold and seeing it steadily move downward. Gavriel reached out and touched this coldness, the snow wrapped itself around his fingers, then hand, up to his wrist, his elbow, moving more and more until it was around his entire body, and cold - so cold. Yet Gavriel remembered the words and instead of fearing the cold, he embraced it. "...yes..." Gavriel thought. This coldness was nothing, he was more than this chill could penetrate, and he would use this chill for his advantage. Gavriel Derragon was in control, he would have it no other way. And as he asserted himself over this frost, he felt it empower him. "...Yes..." he called again within himself. "...YES..." he roared from the mountain peak of his heart. This power shouldn't be denied, it could be used for good. A sort of calmness came over Gavriel in the cockpit of his Jedi Starfighter.

Yes, he would deal with Kahj when he came back. He would settle this matter after he came back from Ziost. The stars streaked around his cockpit and then the stars fell into the blue and white hyperspace tunnel.

    Eventually even stars burn out

Jesiv watched as the worldship exploded and he gave a roar of victory. He had taken down a few more skips while flying with Strike Squadron and now he felt more relaxed.

That's when heard the message that the war was over. He couldn't hardly believe what he was hearing. He blinked several times and allowed the news to sink in. "Thank the Force," he replied.

He then began to feel as if he avenged Renn without falling to the Dark Side. He even thought that maybe there wasn't even a Dark Side, yet he believed strongly that there was a Dark Side.

Those thoughtz lead to the Dark Side, and you know it, Jesiv scolded himself. He closed his yellow eyes and took a deep breath and he slowly began to relax.

"Attention all Jedi, This is Luke Skywalker. We have an emergency situation at the following coordinates...We have a situation above the planet Ziost that potentially threatens the peace we've established today. All able-bodied Jedi are to make the jump to hyperspace at once."

Jesiv heard this message and he memorized the coordinates and began to type them into a small computer near his control stick. He gripped with both clawed hands and took several deep breaths.

The Barabel stared out of his cockpit and watched as the stars just began to melt away to reveal the white maelstrom that was hyperspace. Jesiv closed his eyes.

Soon this will become nothing more than a bad memory. Yet we will alwayz remember this time...alwayz remember those who joined the Force.

Jesiv was still deep in his own thoughts. He wondered what surprises would await them at Ziost. Somehow he still couldn't bring himself to believe that the Yuuzhan Vong would surrender, they must be up to something and the Barabel was certain that they'd soon find out.

"Attention all Galactic Alliance and Imperial Forces, The battle is over, and now apparently so is the war. The campaign against the Yuuzhan Vong at Mon Calamari and Coruscant has ended with the Yuuzhan Vong's unconditional surrender! The war is over!"

After hearing that message, the elief that Gabriel was feelign course though his body was immesurable to him, after roughly 2 years of fighting what seemed like a relentless and unbeatable enemy, the war had finally come to it's end.
Having fought the battle of Mon Cal with everythign the Alliance/Imperial forces could spare, Gabriel thought that the batt;le he had jsut taken part in was a final stand, but now he heard that it symbolised the war's end. Wanting to know if Alia had heard it first hand, Gabriel oppened communications to the Knowledge
"Alia." Gabirel said enthusiasticly "Alia, have you heard the news?"
"I heard." Alia said, almost on the edge of joyous tears, "It feels like a dream."
"A dream come true." Gabriel said back, "No doubt everyone thoughout the Galaxy has heard the news... but to be honest I thought I wouldn't see it with this 'rust-baucket'. But it seems Archangel survived it's Trial by fire."

Heading back down to Mon Calamari's surface Gabirel thought that he was finally going to get some time to relax... however his duty to the order came before anything else:
"Attention all Jedi, This is Luke Skywalker. We have an emergency situation at the following coordinates... We have a situation above the planet Ziost that potentially threatens the peace we've established today. All able-bodied Jedi are to make the jump to hyperspace at once."

Hearing the message, Gabriel knew that any time he had planned after the war was goign to have to wait, the learning curve he had taken when he got back from Anoth had shown Gabriel the importance of being a Jedi: it meant preservign the peace in the galaxy, no matter if you were available to do so or not.
"Alia." Gabirel said, "I... I have to head out again. Something's come up."
"Something always comes up with you Jedi." Alia said, "Is there anythign I can say to get you to change your mind?"
"Sorry, sis." Gabriel said, "But since Anoth... I wouldn't miss this for the world. Tell dad I'll head for Corellia as soon as I can."

After a pause, Gabriel wasnt; sure if Alia had just turned off the comm. device or she had walked away from the comm. station, but eventually, a reply came,
"Ok, Gabe. but don't blame me if Dad comes after you."
"Alia. After everything that's happened in this war, I'm half expecting him to." Gabriel then stopped communications, then punched in the co-ordinates for Ziost. Having not heard of it before, Gabirel was expecting anything when he got out there.

Once clear of Mon Calamari's gravity well, Gabriel shot the Archangel into Hyperspace and toward Ziost.

Kali. Kali. Awaken. A voice called to her in the darkness. So much pain... She tried to pull away from it. To keep from surfacing. Every time she got close to consciousness, the pain pushed her back down. Come back to me... His voice. Kahj's. He was there. She could feel his presence. Slowly, but surely, she woke up, following his voice like it was a beacon of light on a stormy night. She swam through the thick fog of pain towards his voice, anchoring her consciousness to it. When she surfaced, her eyes blinked slowly open and she took a deep breath.

Kahj's eyes were closed as he concentrated on Kali's state. He could feel her slowly rising from the depths of shock and pain. The Zabrak as a race were known for their hardiness, and Kahj was a prime example. He let some of his strength flow into her, helping her with the pain until she was aware enough for her to raise her own meditational defenses to block it.

She groaned softly, her uninjured hand moving up to her face to wrap around his hand. Fully conscious now, she closed her eyes against the pain, and the light. "I'm okay..." She whispered softly, grimacing. Her hand tightened around his a bit as she winced, pain coursing through her body as she felt the extent of her injuries. Pulling on the Force, though, she started building up barriers, walls to keep it out.

Feeling her hand on his, Kahj opened his eyes. They were still forehead to forehead, the touch making it easier for him to pass the Force through her. He was suddenly aware of the intimacy of the contact, and he was surprised at the feelings and thoughts that rose within him. He clamped down on it and focused on her, holding off what pain he could until her own defenses were erected.

She laid there for a few minutes, just taking steady breaths in and out, building up her walls. If she got these up, she could go for just long enough to get them off this planet and to a bacta tank. Pain radiated up her left arm, and thats where she concentrated most of her efforts. When she opened her eyes, they met Kahj's and widened, slightly when she saw what was in them... Her hand tightened its grip just slightly as she watched him, holding her breath.

For a brief moment, while her green eyes met his, everything seemed to stop. No sound of the reactor core coming up from standby. No tremors from the continual imperial bombardment. Even the pain of the second degree burns on his face and neck. He swallowed hard and slowly lifted his head away from her, his hands still cradling her face. "Welcome back," He said, hoarse.

Her own voice was soft, barely above a whisper when she spoke. But she made no attempt to move, just continued watching him. "What happend back there?"

"To use complicated medical terminology...you bonked your head." He said, trying to deflect the sudden tension with humor, albeit weak humor. "Broke your arm, too. Besk and Alex are supposed to be getting us off the ground, but I don't think their having much luck."

She groaned a bit, then started trying to push up. "Besk probably doesn't even know where the 'on' button is..." She said, refusing to acknowledge the giant bantha that was in the room with them now. They'd deal with it later. Now the problem was getting off this rock before it collapsed under them.

Kahj placed a hand firmly on the center of her chest, preventing her from getting up. "You stay. I'll fly us out of here. I'll send Alex back to tend to you." He gave her a long look but his face was unreadable, "No arguments."

She laid back, nodding a bit. "No arguments." She agreed, watching him.

Kahj turned his blistered face away, "You shouldn't be straining yourself in your condition. You never should have been here in the first place."

Kali pushed herself back up onto her good elbow, her brow furrowing a bit. "Kahj, I'm not hurt that bad. A dunk in a bacta tank and I'm as good as new..." She said softly, still watching him.

The Zabrak Jedi turned slowly back to her, "You don't know...?" He swallowed hard. With all that's happened recently, it was not surprising that she hadn't felt it herself. Is it my place to tell her?

A look of pure confusion crossed her face. "Know what?" What was he talking about?

Kahj regarded her for a moment, "While I was sensing your body for injuries...I felt something." He took a deep breath and forced himself to say the words, "Kali, you're pregnant." Before she could answer, he turned away and walked from the lounge, leaving her to her thoughts.

Slowly, her eyes as round and as wide as saucers, Kali laid back down, her good hand moving to her stomach...

"Do you have any idea what you are doing?" He heard Bones' voice coming from the bridge.

"Well...I have some idea..." Besk replied.

"You don't even know how to turn this thing on?" Alex protested.

Kahj walked onto the bridge and the three of them stopped talking and stared at him. Kahj said evenly, "Alex, return to the lounge. Kali..." He corrected himself, "...Master Tal'Set is injured. Please see to her." Between the burns on his face and the look in his eye, she didn't say anything, but hurried from the bridge.

Besk watched his master for a moment and said, "How bad are Master Tal'Set Derragon's injuries?"

Kahj caught the admonishion, but let it pass. Besk was much more perceptive than he would have credited a padawan for. "Bones, you know anything about Astrogation?"

"Sir, I don't even know how to spell, Astrogation?" The soldier replied.

The Zabrak nodded and took the pilot's seat, "Besk, warm up the Nav Computer," He lefted the ship off the ground, pointing the nose into the heavy wind. He throttled up the Shadow and they rocketed into the low clouds. As the ship shuddered and shook through the rough atmosphere, the emergency communications light blinked rapidly. "Besk, get the comm."

"Attention all Jedi, This is Luke Skywalker. We have an emergency situation at the following coordinates... We have a situation above the planet Ziost that potentially threatens the peace we've established today. All able-bodied Jedi are to make the jump to hyperspace at once."

"Nath's tears," Kahj cursed. "We have two badly wounded Jedi and two inexperienced padawans, what good could we possibly do on Ziost?"

"Hey? I'm not that inexperienced!" Besk protested.

"Sir?" Bones spoke up, "While you were doing...uh...whatever it was you were doing back there, We took on board seventeen injured soldiers. The Colonel didn't have room for them."

Kahj nodded. "All right. Get back there and see to them. We can't help them on Ziost right now. We're heading for Mon Calamari."

After the soldier had left, Besk watched his master fly the Shadow out of the atmosphere. "We need to do something about your face, master."

The Zabrak replied dryly, "I hear that a lot." He glanced over to the padawan, feeling the concern from the Bothan. "There's some burn salve in my medpack at my belt. You can take care of it once we're in hyperspace." Near exhaustion, Kahj extended his feelings outward, getting a feel for the orbital battle. Most of the Yuuzhan Vong capital ships had been destroyed, and the Jedi were dropping into hyperspace, heading for Ziost. The Imperial Navy was mopping up the Vong strangglers, but even so, it was still dangerous. Kahj rolled the ship away from the battle and accelerated toward Mon Calamari.

He switched on the internal communications, "Hyperspace in Twenty seconds,". He turned the comm back off and input the coordinates from the Nav Computer. As the hyperdrive activated, the stars extended into streaks of light, and they were propelled into hyperspace.

"Besk," Kahj said wearily. "I just want you to know...I'm proud of you for your actions today." He turned to look at his padawan. "You fought well, remembered your training, kept your cool. I could not have asked for better."

"Thank you, master," Besk opened the medkit and the Zabrak leaned back in the pilot's chair, exhausted. The ivory furred Bothan began applying the burn salve to Kahj's face. He watched his master carefully, but he couldn't sense anything from him. Kahj was cloaking himself from the Force using his strange Nethhakk skills. "She's married, you know?"

The Zabrak Jedi was motionless under Besk's ministrations. Am I so transparent? After a moment he replied quietly, "I'm aware of that."

Besk nodded and finished applying the pungent salve, "And yet...your feelings for her..."

"Are immaterial, padawan," Kahj interrupted. "You remember your lesson on Fear, back on Mon Calamari?"

"I'm not likely to forget it, master"

"I told you that we all have fear. We all feel fear, guilt, anger, jealousy,...and other emotions," Kahj explained. "What is important, Besk, is what we do with those feelings. What we do while under those feelings."

"And what do you intend to do, master?" Besk asked pointedly. "With your feelings?"

"The only thing I can do," Kahj said, suddenly weary beyond anything he had felt in a long time.

    "Nothing..."

    End of an Era

When the hyperspace tunnel collapsed and the Jedi Starfighter plunged into a cloud of scrap metal. It wasn't until an arm hit and rolled off of his viewports that Gavriel came to understand the metal all around was what remained of a civilian freighter. Yet the arm itself didn't disturb him, nothing of the scene did. Even the little stuffed toy Hutt and the small human girl tumbling through space still clutching it didn't. Screech however let out a pitiful warble at the scene. The mournful warble then turned to one of alarm as green streaks of angry light flashed his way. The Cronitian Fleet was making it known they knew where he was.

Inside the cockpit of the Starfighter the shadow could only smile. This fleet challenged him, taunted him with their shots. Gavriel had been in this situation before. Years ago when he and Kali had assisted Nambia on the edge of the Unknown Regions. It was believed their hostile neighbors from Cronus IV were seeking to enslave the peaceful Nambians. In the end, it was discovered to be a trap set up by both species to trap the Jedi. The Cronitians were dark Force users and the fight between them and the Nambians seemed to be nothing more than a test. The evidence was right in front of him - the Cronitians were back in orbit around Ziost and they were once again taking shots at Gavriel.

It was those Vulkarth priests who were responsible for taking Gavriel's arm from the elbow down. The ache returned to his left elbow remembering the wound, the fight, how he had nearly given into the Dark Side at that time just to escape them. How fitting then, that here he was fighting them again and instead of trying to escape them and the Dark Side, he was embracing the fight, embracing the power that for so long he had held himself back from. "I'm not running now..." Gavriel spoke to himself as he rushed towards the armada of Cronitian ships gathered around the planet. The Scrim and Scorp-Ion Fighters were exiting the capital ship's hangar bays. The enormous Dreadstarrs, miniature Death Stars covered with spines that fired like missiles, massive square-shaped Destructors that looked vaguely like the World Devastators used by the reborn Emperor, bristling with laser cannons and emitting a dull, red glow from it's thrusters. These ships were meant to strike fear into those that were against them. Yet Gavriel had been in a fight like this before, it was nothing new. An old danger that for whatever reason he couldn't bring himself to care about.

"Come and get me, come on!" Gavriel's ship plunged deeper into the valleys between capital ships that should have been filling with their Scrim and Scorp-Ion starfighters but strangely wasn't. Even the shots from the capital ships were complimentary at best Then came the scream that seemed to tear the fabric of space itself. The Force-Scream they had employed all those years ago, yet it didn't seem to pack quite the punch it first did. "Scream all you want, that trick is old." Gav cursed between clenched teeth. Re-affirming his grip on the control handles he opened fire on the nearest Dreadstarr ship. The circular urchin-like craft was more the size of a large asteroid and the small blaster cannons opened fire in return.

Gavriel could remember the roiling atmosphere of Ziost below, practically churning as the battle above it began. Yet it wasn't a battle, it was Gavriel against everything that had held him back. He could remember almost thinking that first Force Scream above Nambia had been a test - one that he failed. And now this one was to see if he was truly ready. Ready for what? Gavriel couldn't say - but he had a feeling that the answer was on the planet below. When the shields on his craft failed and the blue lighting of the rudimentary ion cannon struck his ship, he could hear Screech wailing and then suddenly fall silent, the red and blue lighted photoreceptor going dark. Gavriel then knew what was next, the tractor beam where they captured his ship and brought him on board.

When his starfighter plunged into the severe gray atmosphere of Ziost Gavriel realized that the tractor beam wasn't coming. They were going to let him crash, he was going to die and that was it. Yet Gavriel didn't care, he had lost his heart back at Had Abbadon. Now his only regret, the only thing he wished he could do was feed a meter of plasma to that homewrecking Zabrak Jedi Kahj. He heard Kahj say the words ...come back to me.... He knew they were being spoken to Gavriel's wife, Gavriel then remembered how he had failed Kali time and again. How she was in the bacta tank and Gavriel swore it wouldn't happen again. Yet on Had Abbadon it did. The cockpit began to heat up as the friction of his decent into the atmosphere came, yet it would have to catch fire to match the heated anger Gavriel felt both for the Zabrak and for himself. He had only wanted to love Kali - that was it. Now, his failure was complete. The ground below rushed up and with a planet-sized fist, Gavriel's life was extinguished.

"Eventually even stars burn out Gavriel Derragon. . ."

    "It's not the end Gavriel Derragon . . ."

    "Awaken Gavriel Derragon . . ."

Pain. Pain, and a sense of it never ending was what Gavriel awoke to. It had filled his world when he awoke. It filled his lungs with each breath he took. The pain even caressed his skin as he felt his hands try to grasp at the ground. The pain then filled his eyes as he struggled open up the darkness his eyelids kept his eyes inside of. The pain was unbearable, the feel of thousands upon thousands of needles all seeking to enter into his every pore. Thousands of needles for every pore, all trying to get in at once. When he closed his eyes the pain seemed to dull, when the darkness of his eyelids filled his sight, some measure of comfort came to him. Yet for that brief moment his eyes were open, he thought he had seen boots standing infront of him. Gavriel opened his mouth to speak and the pain filled his mouth, rushing down his throat, into his stomach, entering his bloodstream, racing to his heart, to his brain. Then Gavriel closed his eyes again, allowed the darkness to overcome him, and the pain lessened.

When Gavriel pushed himself up, he struggled through the pain and rolled onto his back. Struggling for another breath was a fight for survival. He won it, but it was a victory he still paid for as his eyes struggled to look up at the person standing over him. The pain filled his eyes again and it was then Gavriel realized that the darkness was the answer, the darkness was what could help him. The darkness was his shelter. Gavriel slipped into unconsciousness when the shadow standing over him spoke again.

"Now, you understand Gavriel Derragon. Now, you are ready."
